Doing too much can be a trigger for emotional eating. Have you been there? You are not really hungry, but eating helps you to keep going?
We can override fatigue with food and at some level it works: but at what cost? Try something different. Try just stopping!
I did that this weekend. It had been a packed month with endless activities. By Saturday I felt like I couldn’t push myself to do one more thing. Even though it there something I had really looked forward to, I stopped pushing and stayed home.
Yes, I did feel a little guilty and I did miss seeing my friends. But I did something else that felt really important at the time: I nourished myself by taking time off to refuel.
Too often we eat to keep going. Eating is one way to refuel, but it leads to extra calories and doesn’t make us feel better for very long.
Tune in to when you are feeling pushed. Do you use food to help you keep going? Imagine what it would feel like to just stop! Stop pushing. Stop racing. What would it be like to take care of yourself for a change?
I find that when I push myself, I have a hard time prioritizing because everything seems critical. When I stop, and give myself a chance to be present in the moment, the real priorities become clear. I discover what I can let go of.
Try something new. Instead of giving in to emotional eating, try slowing down and getting centered. Tune in to what is really important. Stop and give yourself a break.
